The Short of It: What Makes a Short Story Successful?

Description

Led by published author and editor, Jalyn Renae Fiske, this workshop will focus on the different ways one can approach writing a short story. You'll take a look at some award-winning shorts, discuss some tricks of the trade, and try your own hand at crafting a great story opener.


About the Instructor: 

Jalyn Renae Fiske earned her MFA in Creative Writing in 2017. That same year, she began her tenure as Fiction Editor for James Gunn's Ad Astra magazine. Her work has appeared internationally online and in print in such publications as The Science Fiction Tarot anthology, Sword and Sorceries Vol.7, Allegory, Wyldblood, Mythaxis, and The Overcast podcast. Her first short story collection, Side Quest: Stories, will be published later this fall.
