The last summer before college promises to be the sweetest ever for best friends Amelia and Cate. They're returning to their jobs at the girls-only Meade Creamery ice cream stand. But when the founder, Molly Meade, passes away and her college-aged grandson inherits the business, the girls personalities, priorities, and passions start pulling them apart, turning the summer into a bittersweet season of figuring out how to hold onto the best of the past while moving into the future.

Keeping in mind that KCLS had this book shelved as YOUTH fiction and assuming it was marketed that, I think 'Staying Sweet' is quite sweet. For that age group it is well written, full of edge of adulthood high school angst of summer plans gone awry and best friends disappointing on their edge of growing up. The back story is the best part but it came in dribbles, at first seeming to be outside the main story, when in fact it IS the main story.

This book is everything sweet and summer that I was looking for when I picked it up. I read it in one sitting - perfect if you are looking for something light and refreshing. Make sure you have ice cream nearby when you finish reading!
