A rollicking fantasy with a wry sense of humour. If you enjoy unique stories with numerous omniscient asides, no-sacred-cows social & humanity commentary, and out-of-left-field events that still tie together in a cohesive and wildly imaginative story... this fits the bill.
I started to watch the TV series (8 eps.), stopped a little past half-way to read the book, then went back to finish the series. Although similar in many ways: the book has more textual depth and added comedic value in its footnotes; the TV series pulls out all the stops with amazing visuals, Sheen & Tenant are excellent, and adds a bit more of an edgy ending not in the printed page.
I understand why the book has a rabid fan base. A highly recommended read.
